Hardwood Flooring Installation in Central Florida.

Real wood. Real character. Installed by someone who has been doing this work since before it was his job. Joshua and his team full hardwood selection to your door so you see every option the way it will actually look in your home.
WHY HARDWOOD

Why Homeowners Choose Hardwood.

Hardwood is the only flooring material that gets better with time. Where LVP resists wear and tile endures abuse, hardwood accumulates character. Scratches soften into patina. The grain deepens with age. A refinish brings it back to life like new, and then it ages again into something even better.

That is not marketing language. It is why homes with original hardwood floors command more on resale, and why a hardwood installation done right is one of the few home improvements that holds its value across decades rather than depreciating with trends.

It is also the most demanding floor to install correctly. And in Florida, that demand is higher than in most markets.

HARDWOOD IN FLORIDA'S CLIMATE

Can You Install Hardwood Flooring in Florida?

Yes. With the right species selection, correct subfloor preparation, proper acclimation, and an experienced installation, solid hardwood performs well in Florida homes. The caveat is that every one of those steps matters more here than in a dryer climate, and cutting corners on any of them is how you end up with a floor that cups, gaps, or buckles within a year.

Florida’s humidity swings are real. Solid wood expands when moisture rises and contracts when it drops. An installation that does not account for seasonal movement, through proper expansion gaps, correct fastener spacing, and adequate acclimation time, will show those stresses in the floor.

Joshua has been installing hardwood in Central Florida homes for his entire career. He knows which species handle the climate best, which subfloor conditions require moisture barriers before wood goes down, and exactly how much expansion gap a Florida installation needs. That knowledge does not come from a product spec sheet. It comes from decades of Florida jobs.

Can You Install Hardwood Flooring in Florida?

  • Subfloor moisture testing before any wood goes down
  • Proper acclimation period for the specific species being installed
  • Expansion gaps sized for Florida’s humidity range
  • Moisture barrier installation where slab conditions require it
  • Species recommendation based on Janka hardness and Florida performance history
SPECIES AND PRODUCT SELECTION

How We Help You choose the Right Hardwood.

Walk into a big box store and you get what is on the shelf. Walk into a traditional showroom and you get what the sales rep is incentivized to move. Neither approach starts with your home, your subfloor, your light, or your household’s real traffic patterns.

Joshua carries a curated selection of hardwood from manufacturers across three quality tiers. Not every brand on the market makes the cut. The ones he brings have proven track records in Florida’s climate, consistent milling quality, and finish systems that hold up to how people actually live in their homes.

Quality and Accessible Tier

Brands like Bruce, Shaw, Mohawk, Somerset, and Owens represent proven American-made hardwood at price points that fit a wide range of budgets. Shaw and Mohawk both carry lifetime structural warranties and broad species selections. Bruce has been milling hardwood in the United States longer than most companies in the category have existed. For homeowners who want real hardwood at a realistic investment, this tier delivers.

Premium Independent Mill Tier

Mullican, Anderson Tuftex, Lauzon, and Mercier are the names Joshua reaches for when a project calls for wider planks, richer grain patterns, or a finish that needs to hold up to years of Florida living without fading or dulling. Mullican is American-milled with a custom stain program and wide plank specialty capability. Lauzon's Pure Genius finish is air-purifying and FSC-certified. Mercier's six-layer finish system is among the most durable in the residential category. These are not brands you find at a home improvement warehouse.

Ultra-Premium and Custom Tier

Mirage and Carlisle represent the top of the hardwood market. Mirage is widely considered the finest-grade Canadian hardwood available, with micro-beveled edges, industry-leading Mirabella finish, and a 35-year finish warranty. Carlisle Wide Plank offers custom planks from 3 to 20 inches wide, reclaimed options, hand-scraped finishes, and white-glove service for installations where the floor is meant to be a defining architectural element of the space.

The right brand for your project depends on your specific rooms, subfloor conditions, traffic patterns, and what you actually want the floor to look and feel like. That is a conversation worth having in your home, with samples in hand, not in a showroom under someone else’s lighting.

WHY ELITE FLOOR CRAFTERS

Hardwood Installation Is What Joshua Grew Up Doing.

Joshua Smith learned the flooring trade from his father on job sites across Central Florida. Hardwood was part of that education from the beginning: how to read grain for a clean layout, how to handle species that move differently in Florida’s humidity, how to make an 80-year-old subfloor accept a modern hardwood installation without compromise.

He has been doing this work his entire adult life, in this market, in homes built on Florida slab foundations with Florida weather patterns. When he looks at your rooms and makes a recommendation, that recommendation is grounded in a career’s worth of Central Florida installations, not a manufacturer training seminar.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions About Hardwood Flooring Installation

Is hardwood flooring a good choice for Florida homes?
Yes, when installed correctly. The key variables are species selection, proper subfloor moisture testing, adequate acclimation time, and installation technique that accounts for Florida’s humidity swings. Joshua evaluates all of these during the free in-home consultation and will tell you honestly whether solid hardwood is the right call for your specific rooms or whether engineered hardwood is a better fit.
Harder, denser species like hickory, white oak, and Brazilian cherry handle Florida’s humidity better than softer woods like pine or American cherry. Janka hardness is one indicator, but species stability and how the wood responds to moisture cycling matters just as much. Joshua makes species recommendations based on your specific rooms and conditions, not a generic answer.
Acclimation time depends on the species, the starting moisture content of the wood, and the humidity level of your home. In Florida’s climate, most manufacturers recommend a minimum of three to five days, though some species and conditions require longer. Joshua follows manufacturer specifications and will not rush the acclimation period regardless of schedule pressure.
Solid hardwood is milled from a single piece of wood and is more vulnerable to moisture movement in Florida’s climate. Engineered hardwood uses a real wood veneer over a stable plywood core, making it better suited to humid environments and concrete slab foundations. Both look identical from the surface. Joshua helps you determine which is right for your specific application.
Material costs range from approximately $3 per square foot for quality accessible brands to $25 or more for custom wide-plank and ultra-premium options. Labor varies based on subfloor condition, square footage, aand installation complexity. Joshua provides a clear, itemized quote during the free in-home consultation before any work is committed.
Yes, with the correct approach. Solid hardwood over slab typically requires either an engineered floating installation or a glue-down method with appropriate adhesive and moisture barrier. Joshua evaluates your slab conditions, moisture readings, and the specific product’s installation requirements before determining the right method for your floor.
Yes. Flooring removal is available as part of any hardwood installation project. Elite Floor Crafters uses commercial-grade removal equipment to take up old tile, carpet, or existing hardwood cleanly, preparing the slab for the new installation. Removal can be included in the project quote or scoped separately.
